Novell ZENworks Patch Management 6.2
Situation
Patchlink Distribution service is stopped and will not
restart. When attempting to start the service an error similar
to the following will be returned.
ERROR:
"Could not start the Patchlink_Distribution service on the
Local Computer.
The service did not return and error. This could be an
internal Windows error or an internal service error.
If the problem persists, contact you system
administrator."
Resolution
This is an indication that the temporary file squid.pid has been
corrupted or was not removed properly upon service shutdown. Browse
to \Program Files\Patchlink\Distribution Point\var\logs and delete
the squid.pid file. After removal of the squid.pid file,
the Patchlink_Distribution service should launch and
function normally.
Additional Information
During normal startup of the Patchlink_Distribution SquidNT service
the squid.pid temporary file will be created in \Program
Files\Patchlink\Distribution Point\var\logs. When the service is
shut down normally, this file should be removed.
