Environment
Novell ZENworks Server Management 6.5 - ZSM6.5
Novell ZENworks Server Management 6.5 - ZSM6.5 Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)
Novell ZENworks Server Management 7 - ZSM7
Novell ZENworks Server Management 7 - ZSM7 Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)
Situation
The logging from both the Policy and Distribution Package Agent
(ZSM) and the Tiered Electronic Distirbution Agent (TED) is missing
data if they are logging to the same file.
Resolution
Do not configure both agents to point to the same file for
logging. Make sure that each agent is configured to write to
a separate log file.
Additional Information
By default the ZSM agent logs to the /zenworks/zfs-startup.log and
can be changed with the Distributed Server Package in called
the ZENworks Server Management Policy to point somewhere
else.
By default the TED agent logs to the /zenworks/pds/ted/dist/ted.log on a Distributor and /zenworks/pds/ted/sub/ted.log on a Subscriber. This can be changed in the Distributor and Subscriber objects, depending on which role that server is configured for.
Even though there is one screen on the server, named "ZENworks" and has a prompt of "ZENworks Server Management>", there are still separate processes working in Novell ZENworks Server Management 6.5 and higher. These processes are ZENworks Web Server (ZWS), ZENworks Policy Package Agent (ZFS), and Tiered Elecronic Distribution (TED). They used to be three separate screens prior to 6.5.
