Situation

ERROR: Unable to write the driver configuration to the Identity Vault.
ERROR: com.novell.admin.common.exceptions.UniqueSPIException: (Error -683)
ERROR: An invalid application API is being used.
Error occurs while setting either the "Application password", "Driver object password" or "Remote
loader password" on the driver properties, Identity Manager tab, General Configuration section.

Resolution

Reported to engineering.
Workaround: Use Novell DirXML Nsure Identity Manager 2.0 iManager plugins to manage those passwords on an IDM 2.x server. They can be obtained from https://download.novell.com/patch/finder/ , search for IDMPLUGINIR1.TGZ .

Additional Information

Steps to reproduce:
01. Install an IDM 2.x system on a box
02. Import a default driver
03. Install iManager 2.6 on the box, and install IDM 3.0 plugins on iManager
04. Open iManager, login into the tree
05. Click on the Identity Manager link
06. Select Identity Manager Overview
07. Hit the search button
08. Click on the driver icon to go the "Identity Manager Driver Overview" window
09. Click on the driver icon again to open the AD driver properties in a new window
10. Select the option "Set Password" for the "Application password" field and enter
a password on both fields.
11. Hit either the Apply button or the OK button, the error will occur.

The same error occurs when setting the "Driver object password" or the "Remote
loader password" if the driver is configured for Remote Loader use.
