Linux User Management users are unable to login to Linux Server

Novell Linux User Management (LUM)

Situation

Linux User Management (LUM) users are unable to login
LUM users don't show on the Linux login screen
ERROR: /usr/sbin/namcd[PID]: SIGSEGV cought in this thread: [ThreadID], restarting daemon
ERROR: start_daemon: nds_nss_GetGroupsbyMember: failed to init socket, status = 0
ERROR: nds_nss_GetPwdEnt: failed to init socket, status = -1

Resolution

Reconfigure Linux User Management
  1. Launch YaST
  2. Go to Security and Users
  3. Choose the Linux User Management module
  4. Reconfigure according to your environment
    • Use this YaST module rather than iManager to reconfigure
    • Make sure the LDAP ports are 389 and 636

Additional Information

In one instance, this occurred after installing the Novell Client for Linux on the Open Enterprise Server (OES).
