Environment

Novell Client for Windows 2000/XP/2003 4.91 Support Pack 2
Novell Distributed Print Services (NDPS) Novell NetWare 6.5

Situation

The Novell Client 4.91 SP1 for Windows is effective at suppressing the Microsoft Driver Signing Warning when installing an NDPS printer through the Microsoft Add Printer Wizard or NDPS Remote Printer Managment.   However, apply SP2 and the client is no longer able to suppress the Microsoft Driver Signing Warning.

Resolution

This has been reported to engineering.
Workaround #1:
a.  Obtain a copy of NDPPNT.DLL from the 4.91 SP1 client. (located in the SYSTEM32 directory)
b.  Copy the NDPPNT.DLL from the SP1 client to the SYSTEM32 directory of the workstation running 4.91 SP2.
c.  Restart the workstation.

Workaround #2:
Click Continue Anyway to the Microsoft Driver Signing Warning.

Additional Information

When uploading a driver to the NDPS Broker, the files not essential to printing are stripped from the driver installation set.  The Driver Signature is considered not essential to printing.  Therefore, printer drivers in the NDPS Broker database will not have the signature file.  Knowing that the printer driver will be installed without the signature, the NDPS Component of the Novell Client is designed to suppress the Microsoft warning.  In the case of the NDPS Component that ships with Support Pack 2, the warning message is inappropriately displayed.
Steps to duplicate:

1.  Prove the Driver Signing Warning doesn't show with 4.91 SP1 client
   a.  Install the shipping 4.91 SP1 client with custom install.  Choose to install the NDPS component.
   b.  Install an NDPS printer using the Add Printer Wizard.  You will not get prompted with the Driver Signing Warning.

2.  Remove the installed print driver from the workstation.
    a.  Delete the newly installed NDPS printer.
    b.  Remove the driver from the OS.
        i.  Click File -> Server Properties (within Windows Printers window)
ii. Drivers tab -> Remove all the printer drivers on the system

3.  Duplicate the error
    a.  Install SP2 for the 4.91 client
    b.  Install the same printer, the same way
    c.  The Driver Signing Warning will be presented.
