Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management - ZDM7 Automatic Workstation Import
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management - ZDM7 Middle Tier
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management - ZDM7 Desktop Management

Situation

When attempting to import workstations either automatically or manually obtain the following error(s):
  • ERROR: A tree name is required since the naming and/or location is based on the user name
  • ERROR: ZENWSREG returned the following error code: 0
  • ERROR: ZENWSREG returned the following error code: 12029

When running zwsreg.exe from a command line the Users eDirectory access rights are used to update the Workstation Object if the object exists. If the user does not have sufficient access rights to update the Workstation Object the following error is found in the zenwsreg.log.
ERROR: ZENWSREGRegister -- Leaving Registrar::Update, returning -672

See Enable debug logging in ZDM 6.5 to turn on the log file.

If the object does not exist and no parameters were used when running zwsreg, then the import server will be contacted to create the object. Any running of zwsreg from the command line, after the workstation is already imported, would return the previous error code.

Resolution

Grant the logged-in user the appropriate rights to the workstation object or container (see Additional Notes), or allow ZENWSREG.DLL to update the Workstation Object on startup.
