Web Console update problems
Blank page when going to the Web Console URL
After upgrade, errors running reports in Web Console
After applying an Update (either a Live Update or manual) to ZENworks Asset Management, the Web Console does not get upgraded
To understand how these issues can occur, the following is an explanation of how the Web Console receives updates:
The Web Console Updater Service (which resides on each Web Console system) was created to check for updates to the Web Console. This service checks the NC_FilestoreCatalog table every 15 minutes (configurable through the WebConsoleUpdater.ini) to see if a new .war file or an update to itself exists. If one exists, then it asks for help from a Collection Server to retrieve the update. Since each Collection Server keeps the Web Console .war file in its cache (Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\Asset Management\Bin\Cache\EXEDir\WebConsoleUpdater\Win32), it is possible that the Collection Server returns the old .war - if the Collection Server for some reason has not retrieved the update by the time the Web Console Updater Service asks for the update.
On the system where the Web Console is installed:
> Stop the Apache Tomcat service
> Stop the Web Console Updater service
> Delete the tomcatX\webapps\rtrlet directory
> Delete the tomcatX\webapps\rtrlet.war (delete this, do not rename it)
> Copy the rtrlet.war from FileStore\EXEDir\WebConsoleUpdater\Win32 to tomcatX\webapps
> Start the Apache Tomcat service
> Start the Web Console Updater service
In order to ensure that you have the correct Web Console version installed for the version of the patch applied, compare the size and date of the rtrlet.war in the Filestore against the one stored in the \tomcatX\webapps directory.
