Fact

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management - ZfD6.5

Novell ZENworks Imaging

Novell ZENworks PreBoot Services (PXE)

Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 for Windows 2000

Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

Symptom

Windows Server locks up and becomes unresponsive while running PXE Services

PXE Transaction Server locks up the Windows Server

VSP.EXE shows a high number of handles (between 11,000 and 13,000) in the Task Manager on the Windows Server

Cause

The PXE Transaction Server is leaving TCP Connections open which ends up trying up program handles in VSP.EXE. Once those handles reach 11,000 or higher, the server seems to lockup and will possibly loose inter-process communications.

Fix

Fixed in a new ZENPXE.DLL file dated 18 February 2005 or newer that is available in SP1a for ZENworks Desktop Management 6.5

Fixed in ZENworks 6.5 SP2
