Goal

Enabling policy search logging with ZfD4

Fact

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4 - ZFD4

ZfD4 does not, by default, log the policy search process

Fix

Under key HKLM\Software\Novell\ZENworks, create a string value "zenpol log", with value data "1". Reboot. This will create a file ZENPOL32.LOG in %*windir%\temp with a lot of information in it. Because of the amount of detail, it can be difficult to follow. Make sure that you understand which policies you expect to be applied, so that you can more easily decode the information in the log.

Note

In the sections for reading the attributes of the container package, "Policy Search Order" will have up to three digits as a value. 0 represents the object, 1 represents groups, 2 represents containers.

For "Policy Search Type" 0=[root], 1=Object Container, 2=Associated Container, 3=Selected Container
