Goal

Can the DirXML JDBC driver manage database user accounts on Oracle 8.x databases?

Fact

Oracle 8.x

JDBC Driver

DirXML

Symptom

Can the JDBC driver manage database user accounts on Oracle 8.x databases?

User accounts on Oracle

JDBC driver running on Oracle Database.

Change

Install of JDBC Driver

Cause

The driver is designed to synchronizes data between Novell eDirectory and database tables, not to manipulate literal database objects (e.g. tables, users, etc.).

Fix

Not yet.  The driver is designed to synchronizes data between Novell eDirectory and database tables, not to manipulate literal database objects (e.g. tables, users, etc.).  Because most databases do not allow DDL statements (e.g. CREATE USER) inside triggers or procedures called from triggers, there is no general solution to this limitation.  Oracle, however, allows DDL statements in stored procedures invoked from triggers if the "pragma autonomous_transaction" directive is present.  Because DDL statements are autonomous transactions, special consideration should be given to their placement in trigger logic.
