Are there any NDS issues with a mixed NW 4.10 / NW 5.x environment?
Yes, there are NDS issues in a mixed NW 4.10 and NW 5.x tree
1. First, it must be mentioned that NetWare 4.10 is a discontinued product. See https://support.novell.com/lifecycle/index.html. A discontinued product will not receive any engineering support in the event a bug is the cause of the problem. The code is set. If there are simple support issue involving a tree that has a NW 4.10 server in it, we will support it on a "best effort" basis. If the problem is determined to be caused by the NW 4.10 server, the only options will be to upgrade to NW 4.11 or 5.x.
2. In a mixed 4.10 / 5.x environment, there are three issues to consider:
A. One is time synchronization between servers. There is no documentation at this time on known issues with time sync. Time synchronization should work fine, but if a time sync problem is determined to be with a NetWare 4.10 server, the solution will be to upgrade to NetWare 5.0.
B. The second possible issue is with NDS synchronization. The main problem here is that NDS 8 introduced a new technology to DS - auxiliary classes. The latest NDS version for NetWare 4.10 does not understand auxiliary classes. NetWware 4.10 should work ok in an NDS 8 tree, but it will not have the full functionality, and there are known problems which will not be addressed in NetWare 4.10. If these issues are encountered the solution will be to upgrade to NetWare 5.
C. The third issue is synchronization within a replica ring. NetWare 4.10 servers should contain no replicas and there will be NO SUPPORT for problems within a replica ring containing a NetWare 4.10 server.
